ARTHROSCOPY

WestVet is excited to introduce minimally invasive arthroscopic surgeries for small animals with Drs John Chandler and Jeff Brourman. Arthroscopy is a technique used to perform joint exploration and assist with several intra-articular procedures for your pet's knees, elbows, wrists, hips, and shoulders.

Magnification and enhanced detail with Arthroscopy

Although relatively new to veterinary medicine, the increasing popularity and acceptance of arthroscopy is just one more way in which veterinary medicine is closing the gap with human medicine.

Benefits of Arthroscopy:

*
Allows for better visualization of the joint due to magnification (camera can also zoom in on areas of interest to increase magnification further) and intense illumination
*
Provides increased precision over open joint procedures (arthrotomy)
*
Increases potential for quicker return to function
*
Decreases postoperative pain
*
Reduces possibility of joint morbidity vs. tradional "open" procedures (arthrotomy)
*
Leaves a smaller skin incision than arthrotomy
*
Captures digital images for review and allows for owners to obtain copies of arthroscopic pictures
