AMBULANCE
WestVet now provides critical care transportation for your patients. The transport vehicle is an ambulance that has been modified and equipped to ensure that critically ill or injured pets receive the necessary medical treatment and monitoring when being transferred to WestVet for ongoing care.
The ambulance enables us to provide oxygen therapy through direct mask, nasal, and chamber methods. IV fluid therapy and blood administration can be started and/or maintained during transport. A circulating warm air blanket (bair-hugger) is also available for hypothermic patients. The interior has been modified to secure pet carriers, stretchers, and a gurney. Transferring patients will be directly monitored and treated by an accompanying technician.
The ambulance is used to transport patients between our Meridian and Garden City locations, as well as from referring veterinary clinics to a WestVet location. Post-operative cases or medically ill patients that require overnight monitoring and treatment are examples of cases that could be transferred using the critical care transport.
The ambulance resides primarily at our Meridian location, directly across from St. Luke’s on Eagle Road. Critical care transportation services are offered to referring veterinarians Monday through Friday, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., based on availability. Referring veterinarians should contact WestVet, Garden City (375-1600) by 4:00 p.m. on weekdays to schedule a pickup. Fees for the transport service are based on the distance from WestVet Meridian to your hospital.
