Dr. Jeff Brourman is the owner and chief of staff for WestVet Animal Emergency and Specialty Center. His efforts, combined with the vision of local veterinary practitioners affiliated with the Animal Emergency and Referral Center of Idaho(AERCI), brought the first full-time small animal veterinary specialists to the state of Idaho and began Idaho Veterinary Specialists. On July 1, 2005, Idaho Veterinary Specialists acquired AERCI to become WestVet Animal Emergency and Specialty Center.

Dr. Brourman knew he wanted to be a veterinarian at age twelve, when he began volunteering for a local veterinary hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. He continued to work in the field of veterinary medicine as he attended The Ohio State University for undergraduate and veterinary school training. During this time, he joined a veterinary specialty hospital in Columbus, OH as an assistant and began research with The Ohio State University Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. While in veterinary training, Dr. Brourman performed preceptorships at the Animal Medical Center in New York and Colorado State University.

During veterinary school, Dr. Brourman received the Ohio State University Excellence in Small Animal Surgery Award in 1997. After completing veterinary school, Dr. Brourman pursued a small animal internship at Michigan State University where he earned the Intern of the Year Award in 1998. He then returned to Ohio State for an intensive three-year surgical residency where he earned the Ohio State University Hospital Service Award and the Graduate Resident Award for Excellence in Clinical Research. During his residency training, Dr. Brourman also earned a Master’s of Science degree. Following residency, Dr. Brourman began work at one of the largest private veterinary referral hospitals in the country and passed his board examination to become a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2003. During his residency and two years in private practice, Dr. Brourman performed extensive research and gained clinical experience in the fields of cardiothoracic and microvascular surgery.

He has been published as a principle and coauthor in several veterinary journals and one human medical journal. He is one of the only people in the state of Ohio to perform a feline kidney transplant and one of few people in the country to perform open-heart surgery on animals using cardiopulmonary bypass. Dr. Brourman has extensive experience with spinal, orthopedic, oncologic, and soft tissue surgery.

Dr. Brourman was recently awarded Idaho’s Top 40 under 40 Award from the Idaho Business Review for the accomplishments of WestVet. He currently lives in Boise with his beautiful daughter, Brynn and two dogs, Scrappy and Shadow.
